SCHOOL‘S $12M PROJECT TO TAKE CENTRE STAGE

A CAIRNS school with a reputation for performing arts excellence is about to take centre stage with a new $12.6m facility to help create the stars of tomorrow.

Trinity Bay State School has long been known as a leader in the drama, dance and music realm with its annual

performanc­es drawing large crowds for decades on end.

The Education Department has now revealed artist’s impression­s for a new $12.6m performing arts centre complete with performanc­e stage, dance studios, foyer, box office, dressing room and kiosk.

The multi-storey developmen­t will also include two drama classrooms,

three music rooms, multimedia room, practice rooms, staff work room, seating, digital equipment, office, amenities and storage rooms.

“Constructi­on is forecast to commence on site during term 1, 2022, and is expected to be completed for term 3, 2023,” a department spokeswoma­n said.

“The project will be delivered

through the Queensland government’s School Halls Program, and will support about 33 jobs in the local area.

“The Queensland government continues to support growth in the Cairns area by delivering functional, fit-for-purpose facilities that align with modern curriculum learning outcomes,” the spokeswoma­n said.
