Prize is right for Price favourite

TRAINER Mick Price has a simple explanation as to why he set I’m Thunderstruck for Saturday’s Golden Eagle at Rosehill: $7.5m in prizemoney.

The impressive last-start winner of the Toorak Handicap could have been chasing more Group 1 success in the Cantala Stakes at Flemington, where he would have been one of the main chances.

Instead, Price sent I’m Thunderstruck

to Sydney on Sunday to prepare for the Golden Eagle, Sydney’s second-richest race.

“You have to prioritise these things,’’ Price said. “As much as I’m a true Victorian, return on investment for owners is always a bigger priority than anything else.

“I’m Thunderstruck’s a gelding and this is a race restricted to fouryear-olds.’’

Jockey Hugh Bowman has returned from riding at the Cox Plate meeting to partner I’m

Thunderstruck in the Golden Eagle with the Melbourne raider the early TAB favourite at $4.50 ahead of Epsom Handicap winner Private Eye ($6).

Price is also hoping to get Our Playboy ($51) into the Golden Eagle. “We haven’t got a rider yet for Our Playboy as he is not a certainty to make the field,” he said.

The final field and barrier draw is Tuesday morning with Price hoping I’m Thunderstruck draws from six to 12.
