Singer’s mental health message

-

A FAR North artist has released a new single promoting support for issues such as mental health.

Greta Stanley originally from Mena Creek south of Innisfail released the new single, Close Call on Friday and said it was originally written during a difficult time in her life.

“At the time I was hanging around people who weren’t very nice and putting me down a lot, I was losing myself in the ideas that people had of me,” Ms Stanley said.

“It brushes a bit on mental health and trying to remind yourself to step away and not get caught up with things that aren’t good for you.”

Ms Stanley said she hoped that her music would support people who were struggling and it would give them some reassurance that things would be OK.

“It is good to be vulnerable and sing about stuff that is super important because it needs to be talked about as hard as it is,” she said.

The single is one of many that will be included in a whole album that is due to be released next year.

Ms Stanley said a lot of her songs had their inspiration from her early days in the Far North.

“When I write them I am thinking of home, which is Far North Queensland. It comes out in some of the lyrics,” she said.

“I sing one about driving up the Tablelands range and wanting a life like my parents, which is a very simple life.”

But that isn’t the only song that references the Far North. Ms Stanley said it was prominent throughout her whole album.

The entertainer said this new album was very special to her because it was created by many people from the Far North.

“I have used a producer from Germany for two songs, but the rest has been written and recorded with two Far North producers (Tristan Barton and Mark Myers),” she said.

She has also worked with videographers and photographers from the region.

“It’s a good time to keep it local. It felt right to involve some friends and it feels really special because it’s going to be a big slice of home,” she said.

“It will be something that will be nice to have out in the world because I have worked with so many close friends on this,” she said.

The album is expected to include a collection of love songs about romance, but also just family and friendship kind of love. It is expected to include 12 tracks.

“I am gearing up for the album. Hopefully, we can do a big tour surrounding that if borders open up and we are allowed mid next year,” she said.
