Australian made app features eight-second videos (as its name suggests) and delivers regular challenges in which users can participat­e, from dances to blowing bubbles with gum. The app is just starting out but it recently did a deal with Indian group Carnival so you can expect many Bollywood challenges.

This smart task app is designed to streamline work projects, letting everyone tackle the todo list, but it works just as well for home-based projects. Taskade will let users create projects with a long list of tasks attached, and even smaller tasks attached to them. Users can then invite others to join in, and even chat about the projects within the app. Perfect for tackling a clean-up, a renovation, or a Christmas list.

Big storms are back this spring and summer season, making this app a must-download throughout Australia. The official Bureau Of Meteorolog­y app shows the current temperatur­e and daily forecast for your location when you open it, but it also displays any current warnings and offers quick access to a looping radar animation, which could help you decide whether to leave the house with a brolly or move your car undercover.

This app is part journal and part life coach. On the journal side, it prompts you to record your adventures, along with photos, and delivers tips to help you get writing. It even rates your entries by mood. On the coaching side of things, the app’s coach Zee delivers life tips and suggests challenges, from exercise to mindfulnes­s tasks, that you can choose to undertake for the week.
