AFGHAN SPINNERS ON FIRE

-

SPINNER Mujeeb Ur Rahman took five wickets as Afghanistan fired a warning to its rivals in the Twenty20 World Cup with a 130-run rout of Scotland in Sharjah.

Chasing a daunting 191 for victory, five of Scotland’s batters were out for ducks as Scotland was skittled for 60 in 10.2 overs.

Mujeeb returned his best T20 figures of 5-20 and fellow spinner Rashid Khan claimed four wickets to give Afghanistan

its biggest victory margin in the game’s shortest international format.

Najibullah Zadran set up the win with his 34-ball 59 to guide Afghanistan to its best total of 4-190 in the tournament after it elected to bat first.

“The world knows we have some good spinners in the form of Rashid and Mujeeb,” skipper Mohammad Nabi said after the win. “They have played everywhere (league cricket) in the world.”
