Mega buys in the $1m club

CASHED-UP SOUTHERNERS SPEND BIG ON PORT DOUGLAS LUXURY AHEAD OF BORDERS REOPENING

- BRONWYN FARR

WHILE stellar property prices are being recorded across the Far North, Port Douglas eclipses all others with two $6mplus sales this year.

A luxury enclave at 26 Island Point Rd sold for $6,125,000 in May and a fivebedroom mansion at 2 Murphy St changed hands for $6,050,000 in July.

Sotheby’s International Tropical North Queensland director Barbara Wolveridge was not surprised there were a dozen home sales exceeding $1m in the past quarter, plus $1m-plus land sales.

“The market has been very strong for the front part of the year,” Mrs Wolveridge said.

“It has slowed a little bit because of the Queensland borders not being opened.

“A lot of people purchased property over the phone and then have not been able to get up here to use their property, so I do think when the borders open up again we will have another flurry of buyers coming up from Sydney and Melbourne.”
