Alleged raider in court

- MATTHEW NEWTON

ONE of two men allegedly involved in the ram raid of a Bungalow business in the early hours of Anzac Day has had numerous charges mentioned in court.

Rhys Wayne Wilson, 31, was not required to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning after he and his co-accused were arrested.

His lawyer Richard Whitla said he would not be making an application for bail. Police allege the two men, with a stolen four-wheel-drive, forced entry by driving into the doors of TJM 4X4 Megastore at Scott Street shop before fleeing in the vehicle with stolen property.

The driver of the vehicle allegedly evaded attempts to intercept it at Ray Jones Drive and a tyre-deflation device was successfully used at Stoney Creek.

The four-wheel drive was later intercepted after a short pursuit at Bentley Park and the two men were taken into custody.

A police search of the vehicle allegedly located cash, firearms, drugs and property linked to the shop.

Mr Wilson has been charged with two counts each of unlawful possession of weapons, enter premises and commit indictable offence, dangerous operation of a vehicle, possessing dangerous drugs and receiving tainted property. He was also charged with one count each of authority required to possess explosives, evasion offence and receiving property.

Acting Magistrate Mandy Bowen ordered evidence be disclosed to the defence by June 6 and adjourned the matter to June 13.

A Brinsmead man has been charged with one count each of possessing dangerous drugs and possessing drug utensils. He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on May 12.
