CROSS-EYED FRIDA STEALS YOUR HEARTS

- SARAH CARROLL

CAIRNS’ cutest cat has been revealed after the Cairns Post was overwhelmed with photos of the region’s felines and their owners insisting they had a winner.

After narrowing it down to the top 100, we had readers cast their votes and Frida stole the hearts of the Far North, taking home 20 per cent of the votes.

Frida’s owner Belinda Smith looks after her cats like they’re her children, but said her cat winning Cairns Cutest Cat is the equivalent of “the British research ship being named Boaty McBoatFace”.

“She’s derpy and cross-eyed and the photo just happened to be the right place at the right time for me to show exactly what she’s truly like,” she said.

“Frida and her sister Willow are four, and I spoil them. She’s 30 in cat years, so I threw her a Dirty Thirty birthday party and we served ‘meow-garitas’.”

Frida was welcomed into Ms Smith’s house when her local vet sent her a photo of “little fluffy, white jelly beans” and asked if she would take some of them in.

“I have to warn everyone, they might just climb you like a tree, you’ll be standing there and all of a sudden one will jump on your shoulder.

“Frida is a tiny little cat, but she’s fierce, my husband is a reluctant cat person, but Frida is definitely his favourite.”
