COLOURFUL PARTY AT THE COAST

- ANDREAS NICOLA

PIRATES from all age groups gathered on Sunday for the Barbary Coasters Parrothead Concert to have a boogie, party and raise some money.

About 220 people attended the event at Cairns Cruising Yacht Squadron to raise money for Sailability — an organisation which supports disadvantaged and disabled people to get out on the water.

Barbary Coasters member Vance Fahey said he was proud of the funds received with more expected from donation tins to be counted.

“A good amount of money was raised. Just from the raffle alone over $1500 was raised,” he said.

Mr Fahey said it was a fantastic vibe.

“Virtually from the word go, people were dancing. I didn’t see any empty tables,” he said. “The club was incredible, they transformed the inside of the club to a tropical paradise.”

He said it was special to mark the 30th anniversary.

“They’ve always been fundraisers, that’s always one of the things we’ve wanted to do,” he said.
