Rodeo’s return is a cracker
THRILLS and spills were the order of the day at a packed out Mt Garnet Rodeo.
More than 300 competitors vied for prizes with spectators enjoying revamped facilities including a new grandstand.
People were turned away from the entry gate on Saturday night because the grounds were full – leading some to vent their frustration. And scammers bombed the rodeo’s social media page with fake ‘sign up for livestream’ links.
The rodeo, which attracted top calibre competitors from far and wide, was preceded by a well-attended race day.
Sergeant Lee Golding said police were pleased with the conduct of those attending.
“There have been few minor alcohol-related issues, but aside from that the crowds have been really well behaved,” Sergeant Golding said.
One man was arrested and taken to Mareeba watchhouse for public nuisance after allegedly urinating on people’s tents.
