Man faces 13 charges

POLICE have charged a 19year-old Mareeba man after they were alerted by his mother about 12.30am on April 30 that he had allegedly driven off in her car after drinking.

It will be alleged members of the public contacted police a short time later to report the car travelling along the Kennedy Highway speeding and dangerously overtaking cars. The man then allegedly broke into a home in Pennine Close, Smithfield, stealing a mobile phone and keys before stealing the car parked outside.

Later that same day the man was found and arrested in Edmonton. The man was charged with 13 offences.

He will appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 6.
