Amber sees red over ‘negative publicity’
LOS ANGELES: Amber Heard has sacked her public relations team just days before she is due to give evidence in her defamation case against ex-husband Johnny Depp.
The actress is said to have grown frustrated with the stream of what she sees as bad headlines since the trial began last month.
Heard, 36, is frustrated with her story not being told effectively, according to the New York Post. She dropped the crisis management specialists Precision Strategies and has hired Shane Communications before her legal team begins to give its evidence this week.
Depp is suing Heard for $US50m over a 2018 column in The Washington Post in which she described herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse”. While he was not named in the piece, Depp claims it was clear he was the subject and his career was damaged as a result.
Heard has countersued for $US100m, alleging that Depp tried to ruin her. Depp, 58, met Heard on the set of the 2011 film The Rum Diary. They married in 2015 and divorced two years later.
On Monday (local time) the trial heard evidence from Depp’s former bodyguard Travis McGivern, who testified that he saw Heard punch the actor in the face in March 2015. He said during a row at an apartment building in Los Angeles, Heard attempted to spit at Depp and called him “washed up” as well as throwing a can of Red Bull at him.
Depp was left with a “nice little shiner” after being punched by her, according to McGivern, who said he had never seen Depp hit his wife.
