Council election in May

TORRES Shire residents will get the chance to cast their vote for their new mayor on Saturday May 28 with three candidates in the running.

Yen Loban, Gabriel Bani and Ivy Trevallion have all thrown their hats in the ring for the position.

Electoral Commissioner Pat Vidgen announced that steps have been taken to make voting simpler, with Torres Shire residents required to head to the polling booths twice this month due to the federal elections also being held in May.

“Early voting (for mayoral elections) will run from May 25 to May 27 in the council building on Thursday Island.

“Postal vote applications can be done online at the ECQ website www.ecq.qld.gov.au or by phoning 1300 881 665,” she said.
