BIG TALK, BUT WHAT ABOUT ACTION?

- Gary G Smith, Ravenshoe

CLIVE Palmer’s UAP is very vocal about what they plan to do, if they win government. But very short on the details of how they’re going to achieve their very ambitious plans.

I suppose that’s the advantage of knowing you’ll never get the legislative numbers to actually deploy them.

But let’s look at some of the obstacles they’ll encounter, should they win. For a start, most of their plans require major legislative restructuring. So they’ll need to secure the Senate, as well as the House of Representatives to get their agenda passed into law.

And, seeing as only half of the Senate is up for re-election at this election, that’s very unlikely to happen. So bringing back overseas superannuation, or capping interest rates, is just a pipedream of Clive’s.

But what if he did surprisingly win, and could force Australia’s super funds to reinvest only in Australia? Where would that money be reinvested? Coal?

And how would that impact on the returns of the Super Funds? These are Australians’ hardearned savings he’s prepared to play hard and loose with. So what would it cost your super?

And that doesn’t even begin to consider what he’s prepared to do with Australia’s biggest overseas earner, iron ore, while leaving his own earner, coal, untaxed.

If this is Clive’s vision of freedom. No, thank you!
