HYDRO’S FLOW-ON EFFECT

- Andrew Ryan. Edmonton.

THANKS to years of incompetent state, local and federal government, Cairns already has enough projects that don’t stack up, and will not ever have a cinder’s chance in snow of ever paying for themselves.

Projects like CPAC, convention centre, existing and proposed more opera and arts venues.

Unfortunately, thanks to years of useless politicians, Australia is broken with massive debt.

Cairns cannot afford more projects that will never stack up, like a new football stadium, plans to pump Mulgrave River dry, Bunnings Star Wars movie production theatres, kilometres of unused bike paths, or having anything to do with massive subsidies to foreign owned windfarmers, that will never supply cheap, green, reliable electricity.

I believe our eminent professors of JCU who have publicly spoken out about the stupidity of foreignowned windfarms mutilating our forests and precious Australian native wildlife.

Unlike our politicians, these men and women have dedicated their lives to the study of environmental issues, eco systems, and the importance of protecting our precious native wildlife. They highly recommend dams for drinking water and reliable hydro

electricity to reliably power industry.

Construction of dams can provide many lifelong job opportunities for our generations of wayward unemployed youth, that will not need a university degree to earn a decent wage.

If any of today’s politicians are in any way genuine about reducing fossil fuels by 2050, hydro electricity should be used to power electric locomotives, upon our third-world single FNQ rail line, that should have been duplicated years ago. This would enable

millions of tonnes of freight to be carted in an environmentally friendly and safe manner. It would also reduce the way too many trucks, destroying the Bruce Hwy, costing billions in repairs, and heartache for the many of those who are fatally injured on that road.
