SMART MOVE FOR CITY
Coalition pledge locks in bipartisan support for CQU campus
CQU’S $50m campus in the heart of the Cairns CBD is set to go ahead with the Coalition locking in bipartisan support by matching Labor’s promise. The new campus will be built on a former post office site at the corner of Grafton and Hartley streets. It comes as students including Gabrielle Noack (left) celebrated their graduations.
WITH big smiles and a strong focus on not tripping, more than 130 CQUniversity graduates took to the stage on Thursday.
The Cairns Convention Centre hosted the university graduation ceremony as workforce-ready graduates from multiple cohorts were awarded their new degrees.
Gabrielle Noack was the first to break the ice, letting out a celebratory “woo!” as she crossed the stage.
Graduating from a Bachelor of Nursing with distinctions, Ms Noack said she balanced work and study through determination and support.
“I was working an average of 55 hours per week as an enrolled nurse while also studying full-time for the past three years,” she said.
“I got through it with determination and lots of support from my friends, family and my husband.
“It was nice to prove to myself that I could do it.”
