WIND POWER’S GRIM CARBON FOOTPRINT

-

I CANNOT understand why the greenies are all in favour of wind and solar power generation.

If you look at the carbon footprint of wind turbines, you will be horrified to see how big it is.

Steel manufacture, cement manufacture, blade composite manufacture, transportation and that is only the start.

Turbines have an apparent lifespan of about 25 years and what happens to them then? I believe that wind farms in USA are being abandoned as it is too expensive to demolish them. Solar panels must be cleaned regularly and only work when the sun shines.

I fail to see why we are NOT building hydro dams (apart from opposition of the noisy green fringe of society.) Dams, once built, will last for many years. They supply power, irrigation, drinking water and recreation.

The money that has been spent (wasted) building wind farms could have built at least a couple of new dams. All the rain we have been having is being wasted and is flowing ultimately on to the Great Barrier Reef. This should have been harvested and is free.

I note that many countries are now building new nuclear power stations. We have advanced a long way since the first nuclear plants were built. Australia has a huge amount of uranium and should be using it.

Damned if we don’t.
