Red hot return for fans

- SARAH CARROLL

AFTER Covid-enforced rescheduling, Red Hot Summer ticket holders might have been entitled to wonder “Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again?”

But as thousands of fans at Cairns Showgrounds gave the classic response to The Angels’ hit, there was relief that music was live and kicking again.

The Red Hot Summer Tour took over the showgrounds on Saturday, with a packed lineup pulling a crowd of all ages.

Event organiser Joshua Jones said anyone at the long

delayed event would agree, “the vibe was unbelievable”.

“It went really well; it was great to see the sun, and the weather combined with the

vibing crowd made for a perfect day,” he said.

“The crowd we get in Cairns is always such a good time; they know how to party.

“I think crowd numbers were pretty on par with our last time visiting the Far North. We were really happy overall with attendance and the crowd behaviour, it was perfect and it all ran like clockwork.”

For concertgoer Bronwyn Murphy, it was a chance to spend some family time in the sun with a drink and some good music.

“I’m here with my brother; I love being able to be here with him and sharing this experience,” she said.

“I love music, and the fact we can start getting back into live music and be here, it’s awesome,” Ms Murphy said.

“I’m so excited to see Hunters and Collectors. They’re some solid legends and it’s really great to have them up here in the Far North.”

Cairns mum Amanda Blackley brought along her seven-year-old son to the gig, geared up with ear muffs as the music blasted through the event. She was keen to see The Living End.

“It’s his first concert and he really loves rock music, so we figured why not bring him along and show him some of our bands,” she said.

“He’s really enjoying it, we all are. We’re keen to be able to show him some of the music from when we were younger.”
