HORSIN’ AROUND WITH MAVERICK & HER MAJ
WINDSOR: A beaming Queen Elizabeth defied all health concerns as she appeared at the first major event to mark her 70th anniversary on the throne.
The 96-year-old monarch was accompanied by her youngest son Prince Edward to watch the final night of the Royal Windsor Horse Show.
She carried a walking stick and received a standing ovation as she arrived for the open air show, which included Top Gun: Maverick star Tom Cruise as well as Dame Helen Mirren.
The show, A Gallop Through History, was billed as a “personal tribute to our monarchy” and featured more than 500 horses and 1000 performers.
The production included international and national military, equestrian and dance displays and took the audience through more than five centuries of history.
Cruise announced the performance of the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery as “one of the most enthralling, thrilling, heart-in-mouth displays”.
He called his invitation to participate in the show for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee an “honour and privilege”.
“I love the history and have great respect for her,” he said.
“She is a person I greatly admire, someone with tremendous dignity. I admire her devotion, and what she has accomplished has been historic.”
