Feast of music and fun

CBD DINER COMBINES CLASSIC TUNES AND TASTY FOOD

- YASHEE SHARMA

FUSING music and food is the heart of Cairns CBD’s newest lunchtime go-to that has plans to quickly expand what it offers.

Troy Woosnam, owner of Herbie’s Diner in Orchid Plaza, left his job as an ambulance officer to follow his passion and open the business.

“It was time to do something different, making food and serving people is what I like to do,” he said.

The diner has music inspirations and is fitted with a record player with a huge selection of music along with a huge flat screen TV.

“The name Herbie comes from the first concert I saw with my partner which is Herbie Hancock, we love music so its Herbie’s Diner,” Mr Woosnam said.

“Music and food are two important things in my life and that’s reflected here.”

The lunchtime menu, soon to be expanded, includes homestyle deli sandwiches, hot style sandwiches, wings and cabanos.

“We wanted to bring something different to Cairns that hasn’t been here for a while, we’re making our own pastrami in-house, chicken wings, pulled pork, everything's made fresh to order,” Mr Woosnam said.

“The philly cheese burgers are going crazy but I personally think the double cheese burgers are where it’s at.”

Open from 10am to 2pm Monday to Friday, Mr Woosnam said he’s excited to trade on Saturday mornings soon for a breakfast special, and will soon move into nights.

“We certainly also want to do wings and beers on a Friday and Saturday night just waiting on a licence,” he said.

Instilling old-school values into the establishment, Mr Woosman said the diner is all about family, friends and love.

“We’ve made the place warm and inviting, come down and spend your lunch time here,” he said.
