Singles game played on Saturday, Gavin Omodei defeated Jim Azzopardi, in a very close game. Round 3 of the pennants, Saturday 21st May at Babinda vs Tully. Check the board for players required.

Bowlers from Gordonvale and Innisfail Clubs are intending to travel to Babinda and engage in a social afternoon on Saturday 4th June.

These two clubs have had a regular annual social game rotation. Keep this afternoon free.

Ladies: Thursday 12th May Social Bowls winners were Margaret Wardrop and Irene Crampton. Put names for Social Bowls in by 2:30 for a 3:00pm start for Thursday 19th May 2022. Reminder that members and coaches are still required to again assist Cairns High School final visit Thursday 19th May 2022 for 3 sessions commencing at 10:20am, 11:30am and 1:30pm. Then on Friday 20th May 2022 commencing at 10:20am. Nominations to assist are appreciated.

Men’s Mixed Social Bowls:

Tuesday 10th May 2022 Bowls were washed out. Tuesday night and Wednesday 11th May night was also washed out. Saturday 14th May 2022 social bowls winners were Wendy Lynn and Jeannie Wild. R/U: Kay Williams and Ian Stafford.

Saturday Pennant: Results had Edge Hill Division 1 winning 71-39 away at Gordonvale/ Cairns.

Division 2 had a Bye. Division 3 Edge Hill winning 52-44 at home from Marlin Coast.

Club Championships: Check the Notice board for all games to be played. In the “A” Singles the next games to be played are K. Mitchell V’s. P. Lee. and S. Henson V’s. M. REMINDER: Only 8 weeks remain before Nomination of all Club Championship winners is required for District Champion of Champions playoffs. The next Social Bowls will be held this Thursday 19 May from 5.30pm (names in by 5pm) at a cost of $10 per person. SILKWOOD

Saturday 14th May was round 3 for the men’s pennant seeing Silkwood play against Tully at Tully Bowls Club, the score was Silkwood 32 and Tully 39.

Sunday 15th May seen Jean Messina and Denise Charman play the next round for the A Grade singles for club championship. Denise now moves to the final round.

Bryan Meyer & Rex Williams played the next round of the Club Championship Singles with a tight scoring game with the win going to Rex Williams, the score was 25/23. Rex now moves onto the next round.

A game of social pairs with Team Dan Dunne & Jordy Dempsey who were defeated by Team Len Charman & Byron Mayell, the score was 9 to 24.

Team Delmo Tarditi & Mirella Berryman defeated Team Alan Hudson & Ann Hollingsworth with the scores 30 to 13. NO Friday Night Barefoot bowls or BBQ. Watch this space for the next Friday Night Barefoot Bowls night.

WEST CAIRNS TPI

A bright sunny afternoon greeted 18 keen bowlers at the West Cairns Bowls Club last Monday. We welcomed back two past visitors who we believe will be settling here shortly. The winning team was announced at the end of the day as Rosemary Stevens, Les Kensdale with their skip being Fred Clarke. It was a change to be able to play the full game from 1.30pm to 4.30 without any interruptions. Next Monday committee members are reminded that the regular meeting will be held at 11.30am and they are requested to attend. The cards are called at 1.15pm before the start of play. A substantial afternoon tea is included in the green fee including sandwiches, cakes and hot drinks.. At the end of play, a random draw of a playing card is made to determine the winning team for the afternoon and they are awarded with a small prize. Any registered bowler who wishes to join our group of players can contact selector Rosemary on 0409624623 to secure their place in the draw and she can also provide any information that may be needed. The green is carpet covered and protected from the rain by a fixed roof and can used in all conditions. We are always looking for new players who enjoy noncompetitive bowls played by members who have enjoyed the game at our club for many years.
