Where the bets lie in Far North

- MARK MURRAY

PUNTERS are looking past Kennedy electorate king Bob Katter in the hotly contested seat, with the renegade politician at unbackable odds to retain his stronghold in the state’s northern outback.

Mr Katter is currently a $1.01 favourite on Sportsbet to remain in power for a 10th straight election, with political followers preferring value and dumping their cash on his rival candidates at long odds.

Liberal National Party contender Bryce MacDonald is a $14 second favourite in Kennedy, while Labor’s Jason Brandon is a juicy $21.

A Sportsbet spokesman said just under 40 per cent of all bets had been taken on Katter, with “rank outsider” Peter Campion, from the United Australia Party, taking 30 per cent at an eye-watering $101.

Meanwhile, in Leichhardt, Labor candidate Elida Faith is being tipped to oust Liberal

Warren Entsch at a healthy $2.75. She was the best backed candidate in the entire state. Mr Entsch is a $1.40 favourite to retain the seat.
