NUMBERS GAME
THE chances of getting an election-night result in Leichhardt are looking increasingly unlikely.
Speaking from pre-poll, Leichhardt MP Warren Entsch thought it would run close. “I can’t pick this one. It could take some time,” he said. Election-night parties could be a fizzer if no clear winner is found and the long process of allocating preferences begins. One thing is clear – that a huge number of people have already had their say. In Kennedy, 37,420 votes had been received through prepoll or postal by Wednesday night. The seat has 114,486 enrolled voters – however only 93,597 actually cast votes at the last election. It means 40 per cent of constituents have already had their say before election day, assuming a similar population and voter truancy rate as 2018. A comparable story is evolving in Leichhardt, with 38,833 votes already received,
117,262 enrolled voters but only 91,651 votes cast at the last federal battle.
Going by the same metrics, about 42 per cent of “voting” voters have had their say.
