Police hunt ‘disturbing’ sex pest

- MARK MURRAY

POLICE have issued a warning over a “disturbing” creep allegedly exposing himself in a Far North tourist hotspot at night and in broad daylight, leaving multiple people frightened and angry.

Port Douglas Police officer in charge, Senior Sergeant Damian Meadows, has appealed for witnesses after a man was seen naked and “committing indecent acts” in front of women, men and children.

He is described as a tall, white male of a lean build, in his 50s or early 60s, reportedly lurking behind bushes near the intersection of Davidson and Port streets.

He was also seen approaching people on Four Mile Beach around 2.30pm on Monday, wearing nothing but a hat and sunglasses.

Senior Sergeant Meadows said the attacks were “disturbing” and “an anomaly for Port Douglas”. One of the victims, Kelsey Garcia, said she was approached by the man as she walked home from work on Monday night in an ordeal that left her terrified.

Another witness reported the man walking naked along the beach in the Four Mile area and towards the main swimming enclosure on Monday afternoon, in full view of children playing on the beach.

People with information should contact the Port Douglas station on 4087 1999 or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
