Hannagan could swap yellow for blue: Entsch
UNITED Australia
Party candidate Daniel Hannagan has lost an election but gained a foot in the door to LNP preselection if the prospect floats his boat.
The third-generation quarry owner and executive coach notched up only about 4 per cent of primary votes in Leichhardt, compared to incumbent Warren Entsch’s 36 per cent.
However, the way he conducted himself throughout the campaign ingratiated him with the sitting member.
“I said to Dan that he would look good in blue,” Mr Entsch said.
“He’s a thoroughly decent bloke.
“I don’t agree with the conspiracies that he’s been asked to push by his leader, but he’s loyal and he is thoroughly decent.
“I like him.” Mr Entsch stressed he could not unilaterally choose his successor after he retired at the next election.
“I have no power to anoint anybody,” he said.
“All I can do is endorse them. Then it’s up to them to convince the party.”
There is no word whether Mr Hannagan or the party machinery are interested.
