hit $1 trillion next year and keep rising through the 2020s; it’s now going to be bigger and still keep rising.

And all that assumed the economy was zipping along without a cloud in the blue – or should that be, green – economic sky.

In fact, the world is turning dark, nasty and complicated.

All this is going to be happening as inflation runs at its highest level since the early 1990s and we are facing the very real risk of a wagesinflation spiral developing.

The Reserve Bank is already going to put up interest rates; if the spiral develops, it will have to hike them savagely, even if the economy plunges into recession.

Further, it’s not as if all this will be taking place against a benign global backdrop. Globally, things are getting seriously complicated and nasty.

Buckle up. With a full racing harness.

Thank you, Elida Faith and Warren Entsch, for a civil and policy focused election campaign in Leichhardt. Thank you Warren for your continued support of our LGBTIQA youth, the environment and the values of small ‘l’ liberals. It’s ironic that the values of Menzies’ party are now vested with ‘teal’ MHRs. Scott Morrison took to the party to the right with disastrous consequences. His captain’s calls were the death knell of the Coalition at the election. Resurrect Menzies party, Warren, we need it more than ever.

Rick, Redlynch

Can’t believe how thick the voters of Kennedy are to keep re-electing Bob Katter. Absolutely embarrassing.

Moa Dan, Gordonvale

So, Leichhardt have failed to take the opportunity for a change in representation. If you thought we were the forgotten bit of FNQ over the last term don’t hold your breath hoping it’s going to change any time soon.

Will the worrier, White Rock

If you thought Australia was going downhill fast under ScoMo, you’d better buckle up for the ever steeper slippery slope under Albo.

GTS, Kanimbla

The top doctor is correct that sending our manufacturing overseas was a very bad idea (21/5). That very bad idea was heartily embraced by none other than the LNP and ALP.

Old Aussie, Redlynch

Well, well, well, ScoMo – who’d have thunk it. You embraced deep green ideology and it backfired spectacularly. You validated that nonsense by embracing net zero so low-info Aussies voted for parties that will get us “there” quicker. You were the worst LNP leader in Australian history.

History Guy, Freshwater

Energy cost spike CP 21/5, not only are we getting stung at the bowser, we’re about to get hammered in our homes using electricity. As nearly 80 per cent of our power comes from fossil fuels, a transition to EVs and renewable energy can’t come quick enough.

Richie, Bungalow

Anyone who doesn’t think “monkeypox” will be the catalyst for the inevitable WHO mandated post election lockdowns simply has not paid attention this last two years.

Bruce, Westcourt

Wow, David Penberthy came perilously close to questioning the science and ridiculing the experts in his column on Friday. Watch out, David, the Thought Police will be coming for you next.

Allen, Westcourt
