ROOS ROMP TO BIG WN TO OPEN SEASON
KANGAROOS have started their premiership defence in convincing fashion, firing a warning shot to the rest of the Cairns District Rugby League Women’s competition with an 84-0 demolition of Mossman-Port Douglas Sharks.
The sides could not be more different, with the defending premiers stacked with talent who have been part of the Northern Pride under-19s in the past two years or linked with the NQ Gold Stars and Cowboys Academy, coming up against a Sharks outfit playing their first game in the CDRL competition.
That difference played out as expected, as Kangaroos repeatedly punched holes in the Sharks’ defence on their way to 17 tries.
Montana Mook scored a hat trick, while 10 others crossed at least once.
It was the only game to go ahead in round one. The Tablelands’ clash against Edmonton did not eventuate due to a shortage of match officials, while Innisfail forfeited to Yarrabah after illness ripped through the squad.
