FOR SALE? NOT BY THE HAIR OF MY CHINNY: OWNER
THE connections of one of
Queensland racing’s hottest prospects have hoisted the “not for sale” sign, saying boom filly Chinny Boom will race on for Rockhampton trainer Clinton Taylor.
Taylor, along with owner-breeder Mark Pascoe have been inundated with offers from leading Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne stables looking to buy the three-year-old after she smashed the 1050m track record at Rockhampton in what was just her fourth start last week.
After being passed in at the sales, Taylor says Pascoe elected to keep and race the Spirit Of Boom filly himself.
Chinny Boom has reeled off four consecutive wins in Rockhampton, Townsville and Mackay with a combined winning margin of 18 lengths and Taylor says he will finally test her in Brisbane in a fortnight’s time after winning at Winx-like odds in the north.
While he did not rule out a trip further south if she was to win, Taylor has identified the Listed Mode Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on December 3 as her grand final.
“She’s not for sale, not at this stage anyway,” Taylor said. “She has got to go to Brisbane and there is a question mark over 1200m, it is a box we haven’t ticked yet and it is our next test.
“Her breeding suggests they are not 1200m specialists. She looks like she will but and her main goal this prep is the Mode Stakes, so we will test the waters at 1200m before that rather than going in unknown.”
Taylor says he had been taken aback by the interest in his horse, which could reach fever pitch if she is to continue on her winning rampage in Brisbane.
Pascoe, a Chinchilla-based businessman, bred the likes of Le Palmier, who won at Eagle Farm on Saturday and is now enjoying the fruits of his labour with a full sister in the form of Chinny Boom.
“There are a few guys who are desperate to buy her, they have been coming from everywhere,” Taylor said. “(Pascoe’s) words were ‘I have never had a good one, now I have got one, why should I sell?’
“He bred Le Palmier and sold it through the sale, he bred this one and put her through the sale, she got to $48,000 and the reserve was $50,000, so he took her home himself.”
