In real terms power prices are higher than they were 35 years ago. Renewables were added from 2005. So much for the “renewables are cheaper” myth. Greenies and lefties wrong again, as usual. But don’t expect Albo (or Dutto) to turn the ship around. They’re not working for us.

Re: MBH (CP, 26/10) I don’t mind watching fit girls play AFL but I get very sick of them being shoved down our throats. They don’t play the same as the men. Not remotely.

Very small crowd sizes prove that. Sportsfan, Trinity Beach

As a kid growing up in Cairns in the 60s and 70s I often got melted bitumen stuck to my feet and bike tyres. A layer of bitumen on the feet was good armour against prickles since we never wore shoes until high school. It’s not hot enough to melt bitumen now, but alarmists freak out about very ordinary spring and summer temperatures. They’re only convincing themselves.

Soaring power prices are due to a wholesale jump in coal and gas prices, and thanks to the Coalition we are nine years behind exiting fossil fuels. Labor’s renewable energy program will now take a couple of years to kick in to help reduce power bills.

Darcy, Cairns CBD

I’m not seeing much love for the Labor Party anywhere I look. Nobody admits to voting for them. This is where we need the right of voter recall, so we can eliminate politicians that lie to get their hands on the reins of power.

Richard Marles blames Ukraine for soaring gas price. LOL. We have plenty of gas and we should never have signed up for globalism. Nor should we be supporting Ukraine, which is where the wealthy elites launder the money they steal from taxpayers.

So the federal government has an extra $150bn from taxes (high employment) and resource exports. Obviously they could have kept the cut on fuel excise. At least that would help cost of living down “around the kitchen table”. Ray, Ravenshoe

Do wokies have a clubhouse in someone’s backyard or maybe a cute yet safe playpen somewhere? Woz, Parramatta Park

Re: federal budget. Forget about $75m for a voice in parliament and spend it on the crime rate in Cairns. Steve, Westcourt

Re: Teddy (CP, 26/10). Airlines have a habit of arriving at the same time in Cairns so no one airline gets the drop on another. Unloading 1000 people in one go is a logistical nightmare in anyone’s language. Even the Australian Army would be hard pressed trying to cope with that volume. There is no easy answer to solving ground transport issues at the airport.

GTHO, Manunda

Re: World Cup cricket. Australia’s goose is cooked. Won’t make semifinals. Last year’s tactics won’t work this year. World has moved on.

Sir Don, Kewarra Beach

My thoughts from budget. $15m to attract international tourist. But businesses can’t find staff to operate now. Kuranda Range road $210m alongside other roadworks. What does that mean? Pensioners can now earn $11,800 up from $7800. Thanks. $213m over five years to Ukraine war. Why? $147m for new multi-nation defence school. Why are we training others? $235m for care clinics to take pressure off hospitals but $314m for First Nations health. I thought we were one. And power cost to rise 50%+. I thought that we were going to reduce with all the talk and money spent on renewable energy.
