Beaches link nearly ready

- DYLAN NICHOLSON

MAKING the jump between two northern beaches suburbs is about to become much quicker as the long-planned link road between Kewarra and Trinity Beach lights up.

The connection road which extends Miami Road in Kewarra Beach to join with Trinity Beach Road is expected to be opened in April, two months sooner than originally planned.

The new thoroughfare will

ease congestion on to the Captain Cook Highway, which can back up well into Kewarra Beach.

A council spokesman confirmed the road was completed all but for the street lighting being installed by Ergon Energy.

“Practical completion was achieved over two weeks ago and the road was opened to pedestrians,” he said.

“Council is waiting on Ergon to complete their works, including new street

lighting, before the road can open to vehicular traffic.

“Ergon plan on completing the street lighting work in mid-April.”

The alignment of the through-road mirrors the route nominated in previous long-term planning documents such as the council’s planning scheme and the Local Government Infrastructure Plan and earlier Transport Plans dating back at least 20 years.

It is also the same route

previously advised to the community during consultation on the Trinity Beach sporting precinct masterplan.

Final works were recently completed to finalise the construction of the concrete roundabout at Poolwood Rd and Miami Rd, including linemarking and signage, turf installation, and landscaping.

Council received Roads to Recovery (R2R) funding for the project from the Federal Government.

The design brought forward

the construction of the future planned roundabout at the intersection of Miami Road and Poolwood Road to coincide with the link road works.

A new T-intersection has been constructed where the connection road meets Trinity Beach Road.

The project has widened Miami Road by 2.9 metres to provide a 10-metre wide sealed road and a crossing over the drain where Miami Road previously ended.
