Addressing the causes of why young people offend and become engaged with the juvenile justice system is key to fixing the current situation.

These young people need a safe place to live, people to love them and the very best education that we can possibly provide. They need to be engaged in diversionary programs. Unfortunately, the Queensland government hasn’t a clue having given us this self-perpetuating problem as they ineptly sat back. It needs fixing. More children and young people locked up for longer is not a solution.

The Australian debt is almost $30bn, rising by $60m a day. The Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, and the Treasurer, Jim Chalmers, are talking about a having $9bn surplus for Australia. What planet are these two living on?

Viv, Earlville

So the budget is helping those on welfare. Well I hope it’s not just enabling those that actually don’t want to work and get more money to do nothing. Most people are doing it tough, including a lot that do work and do the best they can for their families. I don’t hear much for them, unless they have younger kids. I guess I’ll just have to keep battling on just like I did when I had younger kids with very little help from the govt, nor did I expect it.

A $2bn investment head start in hydrogen and a further $40bn in renewable energy creating thousands of jobs, is evidence that the progressive left is serious about acting on climate change.

“Every time a police vehicle is damaged it impacts on how we can respond to genuine calls for assistance.” That’s the way, tell them how to minimise your intrusion into their crime waves. M. Turner, Whitfield

Hey, Brisbane government, we don’t need a film studio churning out Hollywood mind control, we need an end to youth crime. We don’t need bread-and-circuses sports fields, we need cheap electricity. We don’t need fee-free TAFE brainwashing, we need restrictions lifted so we can build houses we can afford. You lot do everything wrong and nothing right.

What! A $4bn surplus in the budget and a $14bn cost of living relief to the most vulnerable, I thought Labor were bad money managers. Dominic, Freshwater

I see where the QPS want to recruit more police with more better pay and work conditions. My son had intentions of joining the service. I persuaded him not to join, as he would get abused, spat on and assaulted. He finally saw the writing on the wall. He is now joined the Navy after five years and enjoying Navy life.
