On right road
As spectre of Covid lifts, what Cairns and the north has to offer is something for everyone
Cairns is sure-footedly reclaiming its place as a tourism leader in Australia and the world. We are in the middle of a series of events and conferences that are badging Cairns as a mover and shaker.
The International Business, Environment and Climate Conference has just been.
This week Cannes in Cairns brings together 3000 people from the media and advertising industries, the Tropical Tourism North Queensland Conference looks at sustainable and accessible tourism – and how to grow numbers – and the Airport Roundtable has similar aims.
It’s all part of the Far North’s growing confidence as the spectre of Covid-19 fades and tourists start to return.
One of the heartening aspects of the Tropical Tourism North Queensland Conference is its focus on inclusion.
CEO of TTNQ, Mark Olsen, spoke about that this week, describing some of the offerings in Cairns and the Far North.
They can be as simple as making wheelchair ramps available, and as complex as offering reef diving trips for visually impaired people.
Cairns and the Far North have been leading the way as a tourism destination for decades with the reef and the rainforest in our backyard.
And with that kind of experience under our belt, it’s no surprise the region is excelling in offering accessible experiences to people with a diverse range of abilities.
There’s no reason anyone should miss out on what the region has to offer.
Our leadership in growing food is also coming into its own.
The Soil to Food conference in Atherton on June 3-4 will highlight the abundance of the Tablelands as a growing region, with local, national and international speakers drilling into and talking about our soil, about sustainable and ecological agriculture, and empowering farmers to improve their livelihoods and position themselves to set their own agendas. These signs bode well for a healthy future.
We have challenges, but with the energy and integrity of our community and leaders, we’ll meet them with the ingenuity and adroitness we need.
