ST SAVIOUR’S College student Claudia Davis is still riding high after winning a gold medal at the World Skills Australia competition.

The Year 12 student returned to school yesterday after spending last week in Sydney competing at the national competition in the VETiS Tourism category.

“It’s so great. I’m still a little bit shocked. I can’t believe I won,” she said.

Claudia competed on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of last week and found out she’d won the medal at the weekend.

“They were such long days. We started at 5am,” she said.

Claudia said that during the competition she had to create tourism-based itineraries and sell travel insurance.

“I also had to do a five-minute oral that I had to prepare overnight for,” she said.

“I wasn’t able to take the notes I’d prepared on the day, so it was a bit scary.

“But I came out on top and it was an amazing experience.”

Claudia said there had been six competitors in her section, including two students from New South Wales, one from Western Australia and three from Queensland, including herself.

World Skills Australia aims to develop and nurture the skills of young Australians by providing an opportunity to showcase trade and skill talent.
