Teale has a plan for our city centre

Vision would turn CBD into entertainment hotspot

Tomorrow: Don’t miss a Touch of Toowoomba — a snapshot in time from our region.

SPENDING a fair bit of time in her Station St office in the middle of Toowoomba’s CBD, it’s little wonder Teale Judd looks to improvements in the city’s centre amid her vision for the future.

Though Toowoomba is a pretty neat place to live, the director of Teale Property Management thinks the Garden City could be improved in certain areas.

“More parking in the city centre would be good,” she said.

“I think the Neil St car park could be built up so there wasn’t any cars parked on the city’s streets.

“It would be nice to see people leaving their cars (in the car park) and walking the streets.

“And, there could be more street activity at night.

“For example, the Bell St Mall could be turned into an area that has a lot of nice restaurants and people could eat and drink outside.”

Another swimming pool, preferably with a beach, could also attract people back to the CBD, Teale suggested.

“Something like South Bank in Brisbane but set up so you could swim up to the bar.

“The beach could have night time movies and night activities as well.”

Teale is also keen to see a larger airport for Toowoomba.

“So I can fly to Canberra to visit my father instead of driving two hours to Brisbane to catch a plane or flying to Sydney and driving an hour to Canberra,” she said.

More entertainment for the city would also be welcome.

“I do sometimes find Toowoomba to be a city that lacks in the entertainment area for young people at times,” she said.

“So many of my friends have left to move to Brisbane or the coast because of it.

“I’d like to see a large open area that could hold music festivals.

“I know we have Easterfest but it’s not even half the size of some of the festivals that are held at the coast or Brisbane.

“Such a venue would bring bigger acts to Toowoomba as well.”
