are certain their ancestor was in Australia. Queensland – assisted immigrants

Queensland State Archives has a number of online immigration indexes including an index to Assisted Immigration 1848-1912.

State Library of Queensland holds passenger lists on microfilm for arrivals 1848-1915.

NSW State Records has online an index to Assisted Immigrants arriving at Moreton Bay 1848-1859, covering the pre-separation period. Digital images of the complete records are also available. Queensland – unassisted immigrants

The best source of information for unassisted arrivals in Queensland is the Shipping Intelligence columns of the newspapers for towns such as Brisbane and Maryborough.

Some unassisted immigrants can be found on the Queensland State Archives indexes, although these mainly refer to assisted immigrants. German immigration to Queensland

From 1850 onwards, a comparatively large number of immigrants from Germany arrived in Queensland, at either Brisbane or Maryborough.

If you have German ancestors it is worth checking the CD titled Index to emigrants from Hamburg to Australia 1850-1879, available at SLQ.

Ancestry has an online index to German immigrants arriving in Maryborough 1861-1891. The original records are held at QSA. Other states

Most states have immigration indexes in some form, though not all are online. Check the relevant state archives or record office and state family history societies, or go to www.coraweb. com.au/shipindex.htm for a comprehensive, up-to-date list of what is available and where to find it.
