Detective injured in scuffle

A DETECTIVE has been injured in a struggle with a man during a foot chase in Harlaxton.

Toowoomba Police Criminal Investigat­ion Branch officer-in-charge Paul McCusker said police were searching the area for a stolen utility yesterday.

Officers went to Coonan St where they located two men at 8.40am.

One of the men ran from police and struggled with a detective before escaping on foot.

The police dog squad helped officers look for the offender but were unable to locate him.

The detective sustained a leg injury and paramedics took him to St Vincent’s Hospital for treatment.

Detective Senior Sergeant McCusker said the second man was questioned by police.

They later found the stolen purple 2009 Ford utility parked at a nearby motel.

The ute had been stolen overnight Monday.

Detectives were questionin­g two men and two women in relation to a number of offences yesterday afternoon.

“Police would like to thank members of the public who came forward with informatio­n,” Det Snr Sgt McCusker said.

Police are also investigat­ing a break-in of Toowoomba Rock Sales in Old Homebush Rd at Gowrie Junction.

Offenders forced entry to an industrial shed and stole a large quantity of property including tools, cordless drills and an air compressor.

The break-in happened overnight Monday.
