BIRTHDAY BASH: Celebrating the first birthday of Toowoomba’s popular Mummy Tree Markets are (from left) Lilly Hayes, Oliver Foley, Jarrod Hayes and Sophie Foley. The birthday market will be held on Sunday and organiser Kristy Hayes said it will be a huge event.

KRISTY Hayes can hardly believe it has been a whole year since the inaugural Toowoomba Mummy Tree Markets caused traffic jams in Ruthven St.

The first market was staged at Downlands College but it was apparent within an hour of opening they had already outgrown the venue.

They soon moved the markets to the more expansive Clive Berghofer Recreation Centre at the University of Southern Queensland and haven’t looked back since.

This Sunday will be their first birthday market and Mrs Hayes said it was going to be big.

From 65 stalls at Downlands to 110 at the upcoming first birthday market, the range has certainly grown along with the community support.

“We have Melessa from Allure and Grace Styling doing the design for this market and I’m just stunned at the work she does after checking out her website,” Mrs Hayes said.

“We’ve got dancers from five different Toowoomba dance schools coming along to showcase their talents.

“It will be dance fever, so don’t forget to bring your shoes.

“As well as all the great entertainment, we’ll have more than 100 stalls showcasing local and small businesses.”

The Mummy Tree Markets’ first birthday market will be held at USQ’s Clive Berghofer Recreation Centre in Baker St from 9am–2pm on Sunday.
