Cinderella in music magic

Choral Society will bring classic to life at Empire Theatre

-

THE Toowoomba Choral Society will perform Rodgers and Hammerstein’s enchanting classic Cinderella at the Empire Theatre from August 30 to September 1. Created by the makers of The Sound of Music, Oklahoma! and The King and I, Cinderella is a stunning musical adaptation of one of the world’s most treasured fairy tales.

Cinderella will be played by Toowoomba local Shannon Gralow, who is no stranger to the Empire Theatre stage, having performed lead roles in Dusty – The Original Pop Diva, Les Miserables, My Fair Lady, Cabaret and Cats.

Newcomer Jon Maskell, who was recently in Opera Queensland’s Cinderella, will perform the role of the Prince.

Director Adrian Smith said everyone has been working hard in rehearsals to ensure the show is a success on stage.

“The talent on offer is exceptional and all the leads and ensemble are incredibly committed to the musical,” he said.

“Shannon and Jon are both outstanding in their roles and the audience will be blown away by the brilliant musical numbers, set design, lighting, costumes and acting.

“It is a true fantasy Disney-style production, perfect for all ages.”

Joining Mr Smith in the creative team is choreographer Bec Stanley, musical director Nerida Eckert, designer Andreas Elms and costume designer Debra Nairn.

Children are also encouraged to dress up, with a free soft drink for any child dressed as a prince or princess.
