MARY Wagner is the matriarch of one of Toowoomba’s most successful families. So it is no surprise to hear that what she holds most dear is her family.

“A good family unit is the basis of our success,” she said.

“The children of today need that sense of belonging.

“When children are little, you have got to be there for them and to foster that sense of belonging.”

The Wagner family is the quintessential rags to riches story, and the credit for that success is the strong family unit of eight children and 30 grandchildren.

Now, to help foster that unity in the community, Mrs Wagner has launched the next step in the highly successful Family Week.

“The Family Week Breakfast is about giving back to the community,” she said.

Since its inception in 2006, the program has grown from being based solely in Toowoomba to incorporating the wider Darling Downs region.

The Family Week Breakfast is a progression of the program, and with the backing of community leaders and businesses, it promises to help spread Mrs Wagner’s message.

Guests at the breakfast will get the chance to hear Mrs Wagner’s inspirational story from beginnings to multi-million dollar success.

Toowoomba Mayor Paul Antonio said strong families helped build and strengthen communities.

“It is important that we recognise the vital role that families play within the community,” he said.

The inaugural Family Week Breakfast is set down for Friday, October 18, at the City Golf Club.

Family Week runs from October 19 – 27, with hundreds of events organised around the region.
