Escape with loved ones

- JASMIN MAASTRICHT

EVERY kid remembers camping trips with their family because the journey to get there was almost as long as the camping holiday.

BCF (Boating Camping Fishing) marketing manager Ben McConnell said camping was a way of relaxing and forgetting about the “modern day pressures of life”.

“It’s an escape and is great for relaxation,” Mr McConnell said.

He said families were still the biggest campers.

It teaches life skills like how to use the cooking wares and how to find the best spot to put up a tent

“There’s definitely more growth in the family camping market these days,” Mr McConnell said.

“This is especially because of camper trailers.

“Families now get to bring the comforts of home life with them.”

He said there were many reasons why people camped.

“It’s a positive way of life as it gets people outdoors,” Mr McConnell said.

“It’s also good as a lot of people tend to go fishing when they’re camping.

“Camp cooking is also a fun part of it as most people love to cook when they’re camping.

“It teaches life skills like how to use the cooking wares and how to find the best spot to put up a tent.”

Mr McConnell said camping was also a way to show off that “cool new gadget”.

“When you go camping, if you have that new stovetop or cool new gadget the guy next to you says, ‘maybe I should get one of those’,” he said.

Mr McConnell said there were a few good spots to camp across the Sunshine Coast and further north.

“Inskip Point at Rainbow Beach is a good one. You can take your four-wheel drive and your dogs and it’s cheap,” he said.

“Teewah Beach at Noosa is a great spot and obviously you have your caravan parks as well.”
