Brighten lives with a daffodil donation

-

FOR the next three days, Toowoomba’s shopping centres will be filled with the yellow glow of daffodils and the friendly faces of those selling them. The daffodil is the international symbol of hope for all touched by cancer. Today, August 23, is Daffodil Day, an annual fundraising event that gives the community a chance to come together to help recognise and support those affected by cancer. Cancer Council Australia has united with proud ambassadors Jamie Durie and Stephanie Rice to help promote awareness and encourage community support. Being the largest national fundraising event of its kind in the southern hemisphere, this year Daffodil Day is aiming to raise more than $8.25 million to fund cancer control initiatives, patient support and research services. With all funds raised going towards research to help find a cure, there are a number of ways people can donate. Bunches of fresh daffodils are being sold throughout Toowoomba for $7 a bunch. If you prefer a more permanent representation of your donation, you can also show your support by purchasing a Chef Dougal bear for $10, a pen for $6 or a collectable 2013 Daffodil Day pin for $5. A donation does not have to be large to make a difference. • $5 (or a Daffodil Day pin) will help the Cancer Council give newly diagnosed cancer patients important support and information to help them through their cancer journey. • $10 (or a Chef Dougal bear) will help offer free exercise programs to cancer patients to help build strength and fitness during and after treatment. • $25 will help transport cancer patients to and from hospital for

treatment. Show your support for Cancer Council Australia and brighten not only your life, but also the lives of others with a daffodil-related purchase this Daffodil Day.
