Year captured in photographs:

All things to be grateful for tracked through pictures

IT IS often the little things, right under your noses that tend to go unnoticed.

But when you take a moment in your busy day to stop, reflect and point a camera at those things, you realise how grateful you are for your life.

That was the simple lesson, Toowoomba photographer Prue Smith learnt when she embarked on a 12-month project.

Every day for one year, Mrs Smith took a photograph of something she was grateful for. She then posted the image on Facebook and soon a dedicated online fan group started to grow.

Photographs of her smiling three-year-old, cherished friends and sunny days filled her news feed.

As did happy cats, cupcakes and cups of coffee.

She was inspired by a YouTube video that tackled the same subject: being grateful.

“It is incredible what we miss when we are not paying attention,” she said.

“It made me realise that days, weeks, months all go by and by the end of the year, you are left thinking, where did it all go?

“The idea was to keep track of the things that you are doing.”

Some of the images will now form an exhibition in the Mars Gallery at The Grid at 488 Ruthven St from August 30.

The Finding Me: A Year in Pictures will feature select photographs from the year-long project as well as a slide show of all the images.

The exhibition will run until Wednesday, September 18.
