Great result at Ekka
Greenmount stud wins swag of top awards
IT WAS a deserved win for Ascot Park Jersey stud at this year’s Royal Brisbane Show.
Owners Steve and Jenny McCarthy from the Greenmount stud exhibited 14 cows and heifers which made up what they said was the best team they had shown at the Ekka.
The stud took home Premier Breeder, Premier Exhibitor, two Champions and a Reserve Champion in the jersey judging as well as two Supreme ribbons in the interbreed judging.
They took home a total of 33 ribbons.
“This was the best team of cows and heifers that we’ve entered for a show,” Steve said.
“We were fortunate to have great helpers at the show and at home, that have worked with Jenny and I and our son Matthew to make all this possible.”
It was the third time heifer Bushlea Badger S. Beauty 2nd had been shown at the Ekka after being purchased by the McCarthys as a 15-month-old heifer in 2009, and the third time named a champion.
Along with taking out the Supreme Champion Dairy Cow, she was also a member of the Jersey team that won the Supreme Group of Three Cows.
“When you see our elite cow families producing well and achieving good results in the show ring, it makes all the hard work and effort worthwhile,” Jenny said.
The McCarthys also won the Champion In-Milk Heifer with Ascot Park Elton Wanda, which also won Best Junior Udder from 14 head paraded in the class.
