Challenge looms

LOCAL school cattle teams have just 10 days left to prepare before they compete at this year’s Heritage Bank Ag Show.

It is the region’s premier agricultural field days event and will showcase a range of top agricultural products and businesses.

Downlands College rural centre manager Steve Murrell said it would be a busy lead up, following a hugely successful year at the Ekka.

“All of the cattle that went to Ekka stayed there, so the students had to come home and start training with a new batch of cattle,” he said.

“But we’re well on the way, and we’ve had some local identities donate steers for the students to use. So those people are doing a lot of behind the scenes work and helping a lot.”

All of the school competitions will take place on September 3.
