Hope for farmers
BEETROOT processing could return to the Lockyer Valley after the federal government announced an election promise of $125,000 for farmers to complete a business study.
Minister for Agriculture Joel Fitzgibbon said if Labor was re-elected, they would match local farmers dollar for dollar, for up to $125,000, to complete the study.
“I know local farmers have done it tough since Heinz closed its Brisbane facility and moved beetroot processing offshore to New Zealand,” Mr Fitzgibbon said.
