Huge thank you to community
Community kindness
THIS is a thank you to the people of Toowoomba and your paramedic and ambulance response team, and let us add the team at St Vincent’s Hospital. I am not sure if all the pedestrians who passed by were local people, but I hope they know who they are, because they were wonderful.
Last Saturday, August 17, my 81-year-old mother had a fall in a public place. It was on the corner of Margaret and Dent Sts (on the CBD side).
She had her three adult daughters with her, but endured the indignity of disrupting pedestrian traffic by laying in the street in distress.
She was not complaining, just clearly telling us she had pain in her right shoulder when she moved. We called for assistance and we got it from the 000 responder, and the excellent officers who attended on site.
Beyond that, overwhelmingly, each person who passed by, and saw her dilemma, offered concern and/or assistance. From young to old, the response from passer bys was to ask if all was okay, and then, could they help.
I always knew mum was stoic, but when we found (following the x-ray) she had a broken bone, I was even more impressed with her ability to remain calm and clear about the situation.
A thank you goes to every person who expressed concern about mum’s welfare while she was immobile on the footpath. There were many, and that is the point of my letter.
Mum has a broken bone which we know will mend. The care shown by your community lifts my spirits.
