Workplace culture theme at breakfast

THE University of Southern Queensland’s Vice Chancellor Professor Jan Thomas spoke about the good, the bad and the ugly of the workplace culture at the recent USQ Corporate Club breakfast.

“It is fortuitous that strategies that we put in place to improve the work environmen­t for staff are increasing­ly and conclusive­ly being shown to increase productivi­ty and business success,” she said.

“Hence, it is not only possible to be both a good businesswo­man and a good boss – being both is essential for a successful organisati­on.”

She said great workplaces all shared the same characteri­stics.

a clear purpose and vision, a sense of community where people feel valued and empowered, developmen­t strategies to help realise full potential and a performanc­e “can do” culture where high standards of performanc­e are set and achieved.
