Progress is good but more required

THE Toowoomba Mountaineers men have come a long way since the start of the QBL season.

They lost an import before the first game, endured a lengthy delay to get his replacement on the court, and they went 1-7 during their early rounds.

The very fact that Toowoomba overcame those challenges to qualify for the play-offs is a significent achievement.

But coach Pop Dickerson said that doesn’t mean the Mountaineers are happy just making up the numbers.

Dickerson took over as head coach during a tumultuous period for the club, which had languished without a win for two seasons.

Dickerson said the Mountaineers needed to keep improving, starting with a quarter final victory over the Brisbane Capitals tonight.

“This is my third year coaching, and each year we’ve gotten progressively better,” he said.

“Making the play-offs is big, but it doesn’t stop there. We want to go further. We can’t rest on our laurels.

“Any team can be beaten on any given night... we’re going to have to go out aggressively and see if we can knock this team off.

“We’ve achieved something, but we’ve got to have no regrets.

“We’ve got to keep moving forward.”
