Duggan scores TRL’S top award

-

PICKING up the Price-Webcke Medal at last night’s TRL presentation put a positive postscript on the 2013 season for Wattles halfback Matt Duggan.

Duggan was last night presented with the Price-Webcke Medal, named after two of the TRL’s best exports in Steve Price and Shane Webcke, after a strong season for Wattles.

He won it ahead of Pittsworth forward Matt Briggs, who finished runner-up for the second-straight year.

In his first season with the club, Duggan steered the Warriors around the park in fine style and helped Wattles qualify for their first top grade finals series in more than five years.

The finals series didn’t play out the way Duggan would have wanted as he picked up an injury in Wattles’ first-up loss to Gatton before the Warriors lost to Valleys last Saturday night to end their season. The individual honour goes someway to leaving Duggan with positive memories of the season.

More than 400 people attended last night’s TRL awards presentation at Rumours International.

The best performers in the TRL this year were recognised.

AHLIAL Robertson has come in and provided some much-needed stability in the halves for Valleys, but it could have been 12 months earlier that he piloted the Roosters attack in the TRL finals.

Robertson joined the Valleys squad back in July and has proven to be a handy mid-season pick up playing alongside Justin McKellar in the halves.

He first played a trial match with Valleys at the start of last year but opted to head to Sydney to try his hand there.

But when he returned to Brisbane, Valleys coach Dean Bosnich was keen to get him back playing with the Roosters longer term.

He could now play an important role in guiding Valleys to yet another grand final, after falling in the preliminary final last season.
