SOMETIMES you just know it’s your time to go, says MasterChef’s Lucy Wallrock.
The British ex-pat was eliminated on Wednesday in the most challenging pressure test featured on the reality cooking show this year.
“I felt it was my time to go,” she told APN.
“I said to the contestants the night before (the pressure test) ‘Yep, it’s my time to go tomorrow’. I said goodbyes the night before.
“The other people had grown a little bit more than me in their cooking. It would have been a bit unfair if I’d stayed longer.”
Wallrock, Rishi Desai and Samira El Khafir were all tasked with recreating dessert master Darren Purchase’s intricate raspberry, rhubarb, chocolate and ginger dish, comprised of 13 individual recipes.
“Darren is one of my idols,” she said.
“I’m happy I was there to cook Darren’s dessert.”
The digital marketing director is now hard at work on her new business, a website where clients in Sydney’s northern beaches can order food gifts.
“Say it’s a partner’s birthday, instead of sending them flowers you can send them a box of brownies,” she said.
“I haven’t got a name or anything like that yet. All of this (MasterChef) has happened too fast.”
Wallrock has enjoyed being back at home with her husband Sam, who she moved to Australia to be with.
“It was sad to say goodbye to everybody, but I was also very happy to come back to my husband,” she said.
“My filming time was five months. That’s a long, long time away but it was definitely worth it.”
The 31-year-old also still has her dream of owning and operating her own café.
“The café definitely at the end of the road,” she said.
She tips either Desai or “quiet achiever” Emma Dean to win the show’s grand final, which will air on Sunday September 1.
“Rishi has had his ups and downs but he’s really mentally strong,” she said.
“Another person I think is a potential winner is Emma. She has a very different style of cooking that’s very now. It’s cool, it’s quirky and trending.
“She’s mental in the kitchen, but somehow it always comes together and that’s what it comes down to.”
MasterChef finals week starts on tomorrow at 7.30pm on Ten.
